Better Together

Better TogetherOur Commitment

Ecumenical relationships with other churches are central to the life of the United Reformed Church. Our Basis of Union makes our commitment clear: "as a united church we will take, wherever possible and with all speed, further steps towards the unity of all God's people."  (The Basis of Union, 1972, 1981, 2000)

Our commitment is to:
  • Expand the range and deepen the nature of the Christian common life and witness in our local community, sharing resources whenever possible.

  • To proclaim more clearly, in word and deed, that in Christ we are one World Church Family.

  • To persevere in the search for the visible and organic unity of the Church.
This means that we will work locally with ecumenical friends whenever possible, with the aim that we will only do separately that which in good conscience we cannot do together.

Our commitment is also to have links with other churches all over the world, recognising we are all part of the world wide church and have much to share and learn from each other.

Finally, our commitment to active participation in initiatives leading towards organic union remains strong.
